We made it!

We are currently in the Frankfurt Airport awaiting the final leg of our journey to Germany. We left Portland this morning around 11:30 and flew to Chicago, which was about a 3.5-hour flight. For me, being able to fall asleep easily on a plane is a tell tale sign that I am exhausted and I am happy to report that I slept throughout the entire flight. The week leading up to this has left both of us completely beat!

From Chicago, we boarded our long international flight that took us to Frankfurt. The flight lasted just about 8 hours. With some help from my new best friend, Ambien, I was able to sleep for about 5 hours on that flight. The rest of the time was spent eating and watching some Disney Channel shows. My brand new wonderfully effective sleep mask was a casualty on that flight and I can’t find it anywhere!

We have a long layover here in Frankfurt and will take one last, very short, flight to Nürnberg. Barbara, the woman helping us with all of our relocation needs is going to pick us up from the airport and bring us to adidas where we will get our temporary car. Then we will head over to the hotel where we are staying for our temporary housing. Fingers crossed it is better than La Mercure, which I was NOT fond of during our 10-day look-see stay. I am hoping for one bed, not two beds pushed together pretending to be one bed, and a shower that does not look like it belongs in the seven dwarves’ house.

Traveling through so many time zones and ending up in Germany which is 9 hours ahead of Portland makes us feel like we have no idea if we are coming or going. I completely lose the sense of meals and just eat whenever food is available because I have no idea what time it “really” is. Hopefully we will get adjusted so we can hit the ground running tomorrow and go looking for apartments.

Keep checking in! I am sure I will do a lot of posting with pics and stories.

Congrats Katie, you two are going to have a fantastic time. Let's see, you are in Bavaria and October and thus Octoberfest is just around the corner. I'm sure John is happy with that! Have a fantastic time there and send pictures, Gregg
