Tschüss Sambo!

When I was working as a nanny after graduating from college, I bought my first car. A brand new 2004 black Saturn Vue that I drove off the Saturn lot on September 11th, 2004 with only 10 miles on it. I loved that car! My family has a tradition of always naming our cars, so mine became "Little Black Sambo" based on this book that my mom read to us when we were little. Also, my best friend pointed out to me that my favorite stuffed cat that I slept with when I was younger (ok, in college...) was named Sam and the teddy bear that John gave me for Valentine's Day when we first started dating is named Bo. Put them together...Sambo!

I just watched that beautiful car drive out of my life. (tear!) We were not able to sell it here in Portland so John's parents agreed to drive it back to California and try to sell it there. Such a great help to us because we are leaving in 5 days and we were not planning to take poor Sambo with us. I am going to miss that car!

We spent all day Friday organizing stuff that we are going to store because the movers come in two days. My mother-in-law helped me to sort through some more of my clothes and I have another huge bag to donate to the ARC. The whole house looks like a disaster zone, but we made really good progress. We brought several loads of stuff over to our storage unit and are working on getting everything really organized for the movers. I have heard they come in like a whirlwind and pack everything they see, so we need to make sure everything that is not going to Germany is out of the house or clearly labeled "DO NOT PACK" so we don't end up with extra stuff.

In other news, it looks like we have renters for our house! YAY! It was a very difficult process to find people worthy to live in our house. I love my house just like I love my car and it is a little upsetting to me to think that other people are going to live in it. We are very happy that we have found some nice people and are relieved that we can go to Germany knowing that it has been taken care of.

A few more goodbyes are coming up:
Sunday night with Tualatin teachers
Tuesday evening with my former students at the library's summer reading reptile show

there's nothing like a move to help you get rid of excess 'stuff'! And a good idea since living space in germany is typically much tighter than in large american homes! And I like the new blog layout/artwork!
