We have lights in our apartment! A very nice man named Klaus, who thankfully spoke English, came to install our light fixtures today. Despite the fact that we bought the wrong size bulbs and they don't fit most of the fixtures we chose, I would call it a successful endeavor. Klaus kindly explained the different sizes that we need so I could write down the different letters/numbers to look for on the packaging. He was really nice and it cost 50 Euros to install 9 lights which took about 2 hours. He also let me know that he can help us assemble any of IKEA furniture if needed.
I sat on the floor in the room that will be office and read the whole time with a short break to stand in the sun out on our cute little balcony. I can almost see my school from out there, but there is a big tree in the way. Maybe in the winter I will have a better view.
On Monday, we have an appt. with the internet/phone company to come "clear our lines" and then our internet installation on Tuesday along with the delivery and assembly of the IKEA items we purchased. I am also hoping to get an interview next week for a position I applied for at school. They have an opening for a Special Needs teacher that is an actual "teacher" position as opposed to an TA position and it is .75 rather than 15 hours per week. The job entails working 1:1 and in small groups with students that have special needs (meaning learning disabilities because, sadly, students with more severe special needs are not accepted into the school...). Also, the position requires working not only with elementary school children, but with middle and high school students as well. I am really hoping to get the job and anxiously awaiting the director's decision! (I was told on the DL by the third grade teachers that I am the only qualified applicant so I have a good feeling, but still have not heard anything official!)
Our container is supposed to arrive in Germany on the 22nd (woo hoo!), but I don't think we will actually have delivery for another week or so after that because it will have to go through customs. I am so excited to get our stuff, particularly my clothes because I am cold and I need more long pants!
Tonight John has a business dinner and then we are meeting up with Michelle and Jesse for some drinks before they head of to Münich tomorrow. I am feeling kind of under the weather, so hopefully I am still awake by the time this late night gathering takes place. I am not yet used to/fond of the idea that people begin going out at 1o:00 at night!
Lastly, we got an email that adidas has found us a German teacher that will come to our place on Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30 to teach us some German (finally!). We had to fill out a questionnaire about our learning preferences including what kinds of activities we want to do and whether or not we want homework (nein danke!). I hope that us learning together work out well. Some people have told us it's much better to learn in a group, but we figured we would try lessons with just the two of us at our place and see how it goes. Our first lesson is Sept. 30th.
