I took the day off from work today so I could be present for the Ikea delivery. They gave us the window of between 8:30 and 10:30 am for their arrival, so I was up bright and early and ready to wait for them. The internet was also scheduled today and I was so happy that the technician showed up around 10 because now I have internet to occupy my time while I wait for the Ikea guys to finish assembling our wardrobes. The connection is awesome--super fast and we are having no problems streaming TV through the Slingbox. That makes Team Toppel very happy!
I started out this morning by putting together our two bedside tables that we purchased last weekend. I am sad to say that following instructions that are only pictures is a very difficult task for me. Despite the small size of the night stands, I will admit it took me about an hour and 15 minutes to complete the first one. My spatial awareness sucks, so I am always turning the pieces around trying to look for clues in the picture to help me know which way it should go. I wish they color coded or something. Anyway, I experienced overall success and got both night stands finished without any major injuries or accidents.
Then I moved onto the set of drawers we got for the bathroom. Since I was in the Ikea assemblage groove, I started out much stronger than before and felt like I really had the hang of it. I got all the way to the last drawer before I hit a speed bump. By accident I put the sides on the wrong way and then had a helluva time trying to take the three pieces apart in order to fix it. Luckily, I had two Ikea experts on hand, so the guy assembling John's wardrobe helped me out! In the end, all was well and I can breathe a sigh of relief that my assembling chore is done for the day The Ikea helpers don't speak English all that well so I am just going to hope they didn't understand all the swear words emerging from the bathroom as I was playing Bob the Builder!
Fortunately, they are putting together the rest of the stuff and I get to just sit around and wait.
Unfortunately, all four of the doors to my wardrobe arrived broken, so we have to order new ones.
Fortunately, they called Ikea to report the broken doors and Ikea quickly got new ones delivered, so all is well!
Barbara came to help early this morning and was here when they arrived which helped greatly with the language barrier. Let me clarify that it was Barbara #2 (aka the good Barbara) who took the initiative to come over and make sure everything started off smoothly. I think she should start her own relocation assistance business and put Barbara #1 out of business because she is far superior in her work of making us feel comfortable and helping us solve problems and deal with issues as they arise.
I definitely should have brought more snacks because these guys said they will probably not finish until 5:00. The good news it that John decided to leave work early because he is feeling sick (that's not good), but he came to the apt. which gave me the chance to get some snacks at the store (which is the good part). I was on the search for something "good for his throat" which was a hard task, so I decided to splurge and try some German peanut butter....I have been avoiding it since we got here, but today was the day--it's actually pretty good. I made some peanut butter and honey sandwiches and gave John some vanilla pudding too. I wanted to get him soup, but we don't have any pots at the apt. so that was a no-go. Now we are just sitting side by side with our respective laptops-me blogging and John watching How I Met Your Mother.
Now...almost 12 hours later...here are the new additions!
Master Bedroom wardrobe which will house John's clothes
Right side view
Left side view
Extra side dresser because my hubby has that many clothes
Keep in mind none of my clothes go in the master bedroom
Guest Room wardrobe which will house my clothes
lots of storage space
my new desk
lots of room for books!
cute little bench that fits right under the desk
my favorite part--the bench opens up and has filing space!
Definitely a LONG day, but we are glad to have a few pieces of furniture to make our place a little bit more like home!

So we definitely have that night table, and your bench for your desk is where we keep shoes by the door. So funny how you are so far, yet Ikea is yet another thing that keeps us together. lol. The wardrobes are beautiful! At this point, I'd take them over my already established closets. lol. Everything is looking great! Keep up the good work!
