Grace had her two week check up today and she is back up to her birth weight exactly (7 pounds 1 ounce). That makes us very happy because she lost almost 10% of her birth weight at the hospital and if babies lose 10% of their birth weight or more then doctors usually recommend supplementing breast milk with formula. My hope is to keep her away from formula and exclusively breast feed for awhile.

Oddly, Grace measured 20 3/4 inches today. I say oddly, because we were told that she was 21 1/2 inches at birth. Shrinking baby? They must have measured wrong at the hospital because I watched the nurse measure today and her measurement looked pretty accurate.  Her head circumference was 13 3/4 which is up 3/4 of an inch from birth. The doctor was really nice and said Grace is perfect. She also said that we can let her sleep for 5-6 hours at night (if she will) rather than waking her up to feed her every three hours. That is news that mama wanted to hear because 5 straight hours of sleep sounds like heaven.

Somehow we got the time of the appointment wrong so Cristina and I showed up at 9:40 when the appointment was really at 10:30. I was nervous about having to wait that long with an infant, but Grace was awesome. She was alert and happy the whole time we were waiting. She fell asleep shortly before we went in and was fast asleep when the doctor was checking her out. Considering how long we had to wait, she was absolutely a rock star.

But then, we had to go downstairs to the lab because she needed to get her PKU test and that involved a prick to her foot. It was very traumatizing for me because the first lab tech did it wrong and didn't warm her foot up enough so it stopped bleeding too soon. So, a second lab tech had to try again and Grace was not happy. She was fast asleep until the prick and then she cried a lot for the duration of the lady squeezing her little foot and blotting her blood onto 4 circles on her card. I almost cried myself listening to her cry and I told John that I think he needs to be her chaperone for shots and tests like that in the future.

Several people called Grace a boy today because her outfit was white and gray instead of head to toe pink. She was wearing a headband with a bow, so I am not sure how anyone could confuse her for a boy....

We are loving having Auntie Cristina here with us and Grace is relaxing in her arms right now.  Sadly all the pictures I took are on my phone and for some reason my iphoto is not syncing with my phone right now, so I can't access them on my computer to post here. I will ask John to try and figure it out so I can add more pics next time I post. We are supposed to have gorgeous weather tomorrow, so we are looking forward to maybe taking Grace outside for a bit on a walk.
