Cali

Once again...if you receive these posts via email...sorry for the empty messages. The blog posting program automatically publishes if I press tab once I write the title and apparently I do that too often...

I have been meaning to post about our trip to California since we got back, but we did so much it's hard to even think about capturing it all. I'll start with flying and swimming and hopefully fill in the rest at some point.

In order to get to California to see John and Margaret, we experienced Grace's first flight. I was extremely stressed about flying with a baby because in my former life as a non-parent, I always cringed when I saw that a baby would be on my flight. I was worried that people would be thinking the same about being on the flight with us and was very worried that Grace would cry/scream during the flight. She did get a little chatty and wouldn't take her bottle at first (it was too cold from being in the little cooler pack) but eventually she ate, settled down, and slept for a little less than half of the flight. I was pretty stressed when she made any kind of noise, but overall I have to admit that it probably could have been a lot worse and we were pretty lucky.

On the return trip, we got lucky and Grace fell asleep before we even took off and slept until we got home. That was wonderful. Getting the right timing so she will sleep is tricky, but it worked out great and we were thankful! The flight attendant gave Grace wings for being such a good flyer!

While we were in CA Grace also went swimming for the first time. Well...not exactly swimming, but went in the pool for the first time. Preparing a baby to go in the pool is quite an endeavor. Luckily Grace pooped right before we got her ready, so we knew we were clear in that department. Then we set out to get her prepped.

Step 1-disposable swim diaper in the smallest possible size

Step 2-Reusable swim diaper from the club

Step 3-adorable bathing suit

Margaret and I first took Grace to the baby pool at the club. It was a bit chilly out, so she just took a quick dip...she didn't really seem too moved toward any emotion...
didn't love it, didn't hate it...

A few days later we went over to Bert and Mary's house to meet up with Sean, Rayne, Brennie, and Kenzie for some pool time. This time, Grace got dunked. She actually did really well with it and didn't even cry! I was shocked.

Cute bathing suit #2

We went back to Bert and Mary's for one last day of swimming and this time Grace just wore her surfer girl top. Baby bathing suits are very hard to put on especially with all the other layers of diapers!

We are really hoping Grace takes after Grandma Margaret and becomes a good swimmer!
