I am currently 37 weeks and 4 days pregnant with baby #2. I had a checkup today and Dr. Lohr recommended induction around 39 weeks due to descending platelet count. My platelets also dropped when I delivered Grace and the concerns that go along with low platelets are clotting issues and the inability to get an epidural if the count is lower than 100 (currently it's 128). Also, if the count gets that low and I end up needing a C-section, I have to be completely sedated and John cannot be in the delivery room, so we'd like to avoid those things.
So, we are looking at an induction date on May 14th, which is two weeks from today! I was planning to work until May 16th (the day before my due date), but it looks like that plan needs to be adjusted. My last day with the kiddos will now be Friday May 9th. I really would like to experience what it's like to go into labor naturally rather than being induced again, but I understand the risks involved with the platelet count dropping below the acceptable threshold, so it is what it is. It is kind of nice to know in advance when she will be born. Of course there's always the chance that she will come on her own earlier than the scheduled induction, but I don't feel like that will happen. I'm not having any signs that labor is coming soon.
Now I need to get working on my lesson plans for the teacher who is covering me so she will be all set to take over the class. 7 more days of work...
