Dentist

I am just returning from my first visit to the German dentist. Considering how much I dislike going to the dentist, I think it went very well. The receptionist/dental hygeinist spoke English really well and she helped me fill out the parts of the form that I couldn't read. There were some words I was able to figure out simply because they resembled words in English and I was also pretty sure that I should answer nein instead of ja to most of the medical questions since I don't have any diseases or conditions and I don't take any medications.

Once I was in the exam room, I was impressed with how clean and high tech the equipment was. I was very amused with the little basin that automatically filled with water and rotated around close to me allowing me to rinse. Since my mouth guard broke, I needed to get impressions taken of both my upper and lower teeth, so I could get a new one made. They filled these huge metal trays with thick purple goop, then made me bite down until the goop hardens. Yuck. I was also happy to find out that insurance completely covers the cost of the mouth guard because in the US I paid a few hundred dollars for my other one. I have to go back and have another appointment after it's made so that she can make sure it fits right. Since the experience was a good one and the dentist also spoke English really well, I made an appointment for John so he can try it out too.

I was a little naughty and ate chocolate literally on my way to the dentist appointment, but I didn't get in trouble. I was cavity free!
